DANISH TECHNOLOGY TO MAKE A GREENER RUSSIA
Nov. 25, 2008 | Topic: CleantechDanish companies are coordinating their efforts on Russia’s budding market for green technology.
The first large-scale project may be in the Kalasjnikov-rifle’s home town.
MOSCOW: The Russian market is to be captured by green package solutions, believe a number of Danish companies which have joined forces to offer environment friendly technology to Russian cities and building areas.
The first concrete collaboration project may be the Russian city Isjevsk, which are best known as the city for the renowned Kalasjnikov automatic rifle. The town, which is located thousand kilometres south east of Moscow, is now negotiating with five Danish companies about a large-scale environment renovation of the district heating all the way out to the Russian flats.
With a joint solution, consisting of thermostats, heat meters, pumps and pipes the companies can offer a total reduction of the energy consumption of approximately 50 per cent, estimates export manager Pia Zimmermann at the Danish District Heating Association, DBDH. “The project may probably save the town from having to build a planned new power plant. In short, it will be less expensive and better for the environment,” says Pia Zimmermann.
The contract with Isjevsk has not yet been signed but according to schedule the companies are to visit the area to complete negotiations in the next few weeks.
Through the umbrella organisation Danish Water Services and in cooperation with the Danish Embassy and the Danish Consulate General in Sankt-Petersburg, the companies hope to formalise the cooperation with among others the large Russian water supply companies.
“The idea is that we can combine the best from various Danish companies and consequently offer solutions on the real huge projects,” says general manager Carsten Møller at Danish Water Services. The company collaboration does not only include veterans on the Russian market such as Aarsleff, Danfoss and Grundfos. Also smaller companies and a couple of Danish public supply companies will participate in the drive such as for example Odense Vandselskab, Tre-For from the Three-Corner Area and the small software company Picca, which works with pump optimization.
