Helsingør motorway goes north-south through the middle of Gentofte. At the northern end it connects with Ring Road 3 (E47). There are no fewer than 14 local train stations within or very close to the municipality. The municipality is also covered by a network of bus routes, including the express S-buses.

Hellerup Station is a key traffic junction with up to 40,000 transfers daily.
